Finally, I got to this program and am ready to share my experience in recovering files that were deleted from a flash drive, then formatted in another file system (the result should be similar when recovering from a hard disk or memory card).
For the File Scavenger test, a 16 GB USB flash drive was used, in which the folders contained materials from remontka.pro in the form of Word documents (docx) and png images. And now about what I saw as a result and what from the found files I was asked to restore:
- In the Tree View, partitions that previously existed on the disk were displayed, while for the partition deleted by formatting in another file system, the experiment also included a volume label. Additionally, there were two more sections, the last of which, judging by the structure, contained files that were previously files of the Windows boot flash drive.
- For the section that was the purpose of my experiment, the folder structure was preserved, as well as all the documents and images contained in them (with some of them managed to be restored even in the free version of File Scavenger, which I will write further). Also, older documents were found on it (without preserving the folder structure), which at the time of the experiment was no longer there (because the flash drive was formatted and the boot drive was made without changing the file system), also suitable for recovery.
- For some reason, as part of the first of the found sections, my family photos were also found (without saving folders and file names), which were about a year ago on this flash drive (judging by the date: I do not remember when I used this USB drive for personal photo, but I know for sure that I haven't used it for a long time). For these photos, the preview also works successfully, and the status indicates that the state is good.
The last point is what surprised me the most: after all, this disk was used more than once for various purposes, most often with formatting and recording large amounts of data. And in general: I have not yet met such a result in such a seemingly simple data recovery program.
In order to restore individual files or folders, select them, and then go to the Save tab. It should indicate the location of the save in the 'Save to' field (save in) using the 'Browse' button. The mark “Use Folder Names” means that the restored folder structure will also be saved in the selected folder.
